What should I set Cycles Per Hour to?

In almost all cases, you should leave Cycles Per Hour at 4.

What are the configuration options?

4 (Default): The thermostat will target four cycles per hour to maintain the heating or cooling set-point.

1 – 3: Decreases the cycles per hour target by expanding the deviation allowance.

5 – 6: Increases the cycles per hour target by reducing the deviation allowance.

What is a deviation allowance?

Adjusting Cycles Per Hour sets how far the thermostat allows the room temperature to drop below the heat set point or raise above the cool set point before it enables the next heating or cooling cycle. Why? Because the longer it waits the less cycles will occur during that hour, and vise-versa, the short it waits more cycles occur during that hour.

The default deviation allowance is to start a heating cycle when the room temperature is 0.5°F below the heat set point and to start a cooling cycle when the room temperature is 0.5°F above the cool set point.

Does this affect short-cycle timers?

Absolutely not. This has nothing to do with short-cycle limits. Every Pelican thermostat has built-in 4 minute short cycle timers between cycles.
