Can a Pelican thermostat control multiple fan speeds?

There are two scenarios for multiple fan speed control.

Two Fixed Fan Speeds (High and Low):

Pelican has found that controlling just the Low and High fan speeds provides all the control needed to maintain a proper room temperature and manage fan noise. Here are the configuration options:

This configuration is found under the Thermostat’s configuration > “select any thermostat” >Thermostat Settings > Fan Stages

set to 1: (default) The thermostat will use (G) to enable the supply fan.

set to 2: The thermostat will use (G) for low fan speed and (Y2) for high fan speed.

When does the thermostat switch between Low and High Speed?

The thermostat treats the fan speeds like ‘stages’, where low speed is quiet, but cools or heats the room slower and high speed fan is louder, but cools or heats the room faster. Therefore, when the room is in Low cooling or heating demand, the fan will automatically be placed in low speed and when the room is in High cooling or heating demand, the fan will automatically be placed in high speed.

This algorithm also means that the thermostat works to run the low speed fan that majority of the time and only enables the high speed fan for periods where there is higher than normal heating or cooling demand.

VFD or ECM Fan Motor:

For a Pelican thermostat to control a VFD or ECM fan motor, a Pelican PEARL will need to be wired to the thermostat. The PEARL provides configurations for up to five (5) fan speeds using a 0 – 10 Vdc output single. 0VDC = 0% fan speed and 10VDC = 100% fan speed.

This configuration is found under the Thermostat’s configuration > “select any thermostat” > Variable Speed Fan

Here are the Variable Speed Fan configuration options:

Cool Fan Speed – Stage 1: The fan speed setting during 1st stage cooling.

Cool Fan Speed – Stage 2The fan speed setting during 2nd stage cooling.

Heat Fan Speed – Stage 1The fan speed setting during 1st stage heating.

Heat Fan Speed – Stage 2The fan speed setting during 2nd stage heating.

Ventilation Fan SpeedThe fan speed setting during fan only cycle.
