Can a Pelican thermostat control a floating actuator?
Yes. There are three scenarios where a two-position actuator can be controlled by Pelican thermostat:
Two-Position heating and/or cooling valve control for an Air Handler.
Note: This configuration is only able to be enabled by Pelican technical support.
For Hot Water or Steam Floating Valve Control: Wire the thermostat’s (W) output to open the valve and (W2) to close the valve.
For Chilled Water Valve Control: Wire the thermostat’s (Y) output to open the valve and (Y2) to close the valve.
This configuration is found under: Admin > Thermostat’s configuration > “select any thermostat” > Thermostat Operation > Floating Valve (hidden configuration).
- None – disables floating valve control.
- Heat – the thermostat uses (W) to open the heat valve and (W2) to close the heat valve.
- Cool – the thermostat uses (Y) to open the cold valve and (Y2) to close the cold valve.
- Heat & Cool – the thermostat uses (W) to open the heat valve and (W2) to close the heat valve. And the thermostat uses (Y) to open the cold valve and (Y2) to close the cold water valve.
Two-Position bypass damper for a Unit Ventilator.

Face and Bypass Damper Actuator Wiring: Wire the thermostat’s (W) output to place the damper to the coil’s Face and (W2) to place the damper to Bypass the coil.
This configuration is found under: Admin > Thermostat’s configuration > > “select any thermostat” > Variable Temperature Control.
- Variable Temperature to ON.
- Select a variable source (Heat, Cool, Heat & Cool).
- Configure any needed variable configurations. These represents a 0-10VDC output to control a variable heating and/or cooling source.
- Face/Bypass to ON. This sets the thermostat to use (W) to place the damper to Face and (W2) to place the damper to Bypass.
- Actuator Travel Time – This tells the thermostat how many seconds it takes for the damper to go from full Face to full Bypass.
- Ventilation Face Position – This tells the thermostat where to place the damper during a ventilation cycle.
- Maximum Face Position – This tells the thermostat the maximum face allowed during a heating or cooling cycle.

Note: This configuration is only available if the thermostats is configured to communicate with a Pelican Z8 or Z24.
